I dont buy the argument that it only takes a few bucks to make the cable. I own a VCDS cable (real deal from Ross-Tech) I appreciate their product and the time it goes into producing the product. Just my two cents and what I do for what its worth. Join our forum and use the information provided by Ross-Tech and the community of users with that other tool you choose. Still enjoy our work as you use the other tools you find. Why would we beat our heads against the wall to make a product if we are not going to profit from doing so? We are not running to the bank with wheel barrows loaded with cash as some have alleged. To those who find the price objectionable, we hear you. We do everything we can to keep the price low and affordable. Other tool suppliers take our work and put in their tool without our permission. The VAG401 mentioned in this thread has data taken directly from VCDS. Most other tools found on the market today use VCDS as their reference. Simply put, without the help of the community of enthusiasts, this tool would not exist. Our prices have been constant for 11 years because of your efforts to work with us. It has been the US enthusiast that has helped us develop this tool. In the US and Canada, more than 2/3 of our customers are enthusiasts like you. Someone mentioned that the bulk of our customers are probably professionals. Still we give forum and email support to registered users for free. Tech support of those working on cars using our tool costs and yes, we now have to charge a fee for live vehicle specific phone support. People need to eat and house their families. We have people who do real research with tools we have developed such that we can know what the VAG engineers have done in the vehicles. Many think that Ross-Tech gets handed information by VAG. The research we do to get the information on all the models has to be done by data mining. We do have costs that are far higher than the costs of those that steal our work.
We do not like to enter into these kinds of debates.
